QIDI Q2 Honest Review

My experience after nearly three months of ownership

I bought the QIDI Q2 Combo  on 25.8.2025 because I needed a printer that could handle engineering materials without constant warping. The heated chamber was the main selling point for me. A chamber that can reach 65°C at this price point is rare, and on paper it made the Q2 look like the perfect machine for ABS, ASA and technical filaments. After nearly three months with the printer, here is my honest experience.

Why I Chose the Q2

The heated chamber was the deciding factor. I print a lot of ABS and composite materials, and I wanted a machine that could do this reliably without hacks, boxes or insulation mods. In that regard, the Q2 performs extremely well. When it works, it prints ABS as easily as PLA. No warping, no splitting, even on large functional parts with sharp corners. PET CF has also printed cleanly and without issues. For this kind of printing, the chamber is a huge advantage and the overall thermal environment is noticeably better than typical hobby printers.

Print adhesion has been one of the biggest surprises. Even without constantly cleaning the build plate, prints stick extremely well. I’m used to machines like Bambu Lab printers, where the bed must be perfectly clean or the print will lift. The Q2 has been the opposite. The adhesion is strong and reliable even after several prints without re-cleaning. Because of that, I’ve never had a print failure that would trigger the AI camera. Everything has held from the first layer onward.

When the printer is functioning normally, the user experience is genuinely excellent. The enclosure is quiet, the chamber maintains temperature consistently and the overall print quality is exactly what I hoped for.

The Problems That Break the Experience

Unfortunately, all the positives disappear because of one major issue: the MCU THR unable to connect error. This error completely disables the printer. It isn’t a minor inconvenience the machine becomes entirely unusable. The toolhead cannot initialize, prints cannot start and the system refuses to operate.

I first encountered this error not long after setting up the printer. As of writing this on 14.11.2025, the issue has been ongoing for about a month. I have exchanged more than twenty emails with QIDI support, performed every test they asked for, flashed firmware, opened panels, checked wiring and repeated the same steps multiple times. The problem is still not resolved. For a machine advertised as ready for engineering-grade printing, having it sit unusable for over a month is extremely disappointing.

Another practical issue is the power cable. If you move it or wiggle it even slightly, the printer loses connection and shuts off. It’s a simple problem, but on a machine in this price class it shouldn’t exist.

The QIDI Box Situation

I ordered the QIDI Box at the same time as the printer. As of 14.11, it still hasn’t arrived. No clear updates, no reliable timeline. Because of the delay, I haven't been able to test any of the multi-material features that were part of the selling point.

Final Thoughts

The QIDI Q2 is a machine with huge potential. When it works, the print quality is excellent, the chamber performance is outstanding and the adhesion is far better than many competitors. ABS prints behave like PLA, PET CF prints without drama and the bed grips even when you forget to clean it between prints.

But the reliability issues overshadow everything. A machine that sits unusable because of an MCU error for over a month cannot be recommended with confidence, no matter how good the hardware design might be. Combined with the loose power connection and the long delay on the QIDI Box, the overall experience feels unfinished.

If QIDI solves the MCU issue, strengthens the electronics and improves support response times, the Q2 has the potential to be one of the best enclosed printers in its category. Right now, it’s a machine that performs extremely well when it actually runs but is too unreliable to depend on day to day.
